A novel developed through the peer review site YouWriteOn has almost guaranteed its status as a best seller after being selected for the Channel Four TV Book Club Summer Reads.
The TV show is a spin-off from the popular Richard and Judy Book Club and while it hasn't been as well received or seen its recommendations so readily taken up, it has the potential to turn The Legacy by Katherine Webb into a smash hit.
Waterstone’s fiction buyer Janine Cook describes the Summer Reads selection as “a good list of literary and mass market titles”.
Webb came to the attention of her publisher through the peer-review website where budding writers rate fellow scribe's opening chapters. After garnering huge support, it received a professional critique and came to the attention of senior editor at Orion Sara O’Keefe.
O'Keefe thought the book was 'hauntingly beautiful' and took the author on. earlier this year, Orion put The Legacy forward to feature on the TV show.
The Legacy is in good company on the show; the other eight authors include former music teacher Clare Morrall, who was shortlisted for a Booker Prize with her debut novel Astonishing Squashes of Colour.
The Legacy is released on June 24 and will feature on the TV Book Club on the July 12 on Channel Four.
