BookShed Short Story Compilation - Call for Submissions

Short FusesLonger Fuses will be the second compilation of stories produced by The BookShed. The submissions period for the new book is now open and continues until 1 September 2010.

Unlike our first anthology (pictured) where the emphasis was on short stories, Longer Fuses allows contributions of any length up to 10,000 words, poetry included.

There are no rules about subject matter and you don't need to worry about what you write being uplifting or life affirming.

Short FusesThe BookShed is preparing to release a second volume of writing. 'Longer Fuses' will follow up the successful 'Short Fuses' compilation issued in 2009.

While the first book was filled with short stories, the scope for Longer Fuses will be slightly different.

Jamie Weiss ChiltonJamie Weiss Chilton worked in different areas of publishing before settling into life as an agent at a leading agency for children's and teen literature.

Like any good agent, she learned the industry form the inside, working four years in the editorial department of Random House Children's Books. From there she moved to LA to work for the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators. 

Amanda Hodgkinson celebrates two-book deal with Fig Tree Press

Amanda HodgkinsonBookShed member Amanda Hodgkinson has signed a two-book deal with Penguin imprint Fig Tree Press.

Fig Tree head Juliet Annan bought world rights to debut novel 22 Britannia Road from agent Rachel Calder at the Sayle Literary Agency. Annan said the novel had echoes of Small Island and Sophie's Choice and is "a powerful novel of acceptance, survival and love."
